| Dix-huit prélèvements d'aérosols ont été effectués en Manche Nord, soit en bordure de mer, soit à quelques milles au large, à l'aide d'un impacteur à cascade (5 étages). L'ensemble des données (concentrations de 8 éléments répartis en 6 classes granulométriques successives) est exploité par analyse factorielle des correspondances. Celle-ci permet de mettre en évidence de larges déformations dans les spectres granulométriques pour les éléments traceurs marin et terrestre (Na et Al). En opposition, les métaux résultant d'activité anthropique (Fe, Pb, Zn, Mn), ont des comportements beaucoup plus typés. Parmi ceux-ci, la présence du manganèse sur le site paraît être indépendante de celle des autres métaux et imputable à une seule source. Pb, Fe, Zn et cuivre... |

| Within the framework of the European Fluxmanche programme, 92 samplings of suspended particulate matter were collected during eight cruises through the Dover Strait. The mean concentrations obtained for Al (44.3 mg/g), Fe (27.4 mg/g) and Ca (110 mg/g) are comparable to those obtained by Nolting and Eisma in January 1980. However, the concentrations of Mn (0.585 mg/g) Ti (3.14 mg/g) and V (0.225 mg/g) are twice as large. An important gradient of concentration is observed between the coastal and offshore waters, reflecting coastal erosion and human activities. | Measurements of dissolved and particulate Cd, Co, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb and Zn have been made on a regular basis over a fifteen month period at stations across the Strait of Dover, as a part of the Fluxmanche programme. These measurements have been integrated with data on fluxes of water and suspended particulate matter also obtained within the Fluxmanche programme to provide estimates of fluxes of these elements into the southern North Sea. For Fe, Mn, and Pb, particulate fluxes are greater than dissolved fluxes, whilst the reverse is true for Cd, Cu and Ni. | The English Channel has a "megatidal" regime: in the Dover Strait, the tidal range varies between 3 and 9 m in neap-tide and spring-tide respectively. The tide currents are alternating and essentially parallel to the coast. Along the French coast, the fluvial supplies, distributed from the Bay of Seine to Cape Gris-Nez, generate a coastal water mass which drifts nearshore, separated from the open sea by a frontal area: this coastal flow is characterized by its freshness, turbidity, phytoplankton richness, and pollution content. Its width is only 3 to 5 miles, but because of the high concentrations of dissolved and suspended components, it is possible that the coastal flow plays an important role in the fluxes between the Eastern Channel and the North Sea. |
